Time Management

The Time Management tab is used to set the node's time and time zone, and configure time synchronization parameters.

This tab is not available on all products. For products that rely on the underlying operating system tools for time management functions (for example, Enterprise Gateway products), the time management tasks are performed using the operating system tools.
The Enterprise Gateway for Siemens ERPC product only provides the function to set the node's time zone. Other time management functions tasks are accomplished using the Siemens configuration tools.

In addition to the Time Management function to synchronize time with a time server, nodes can synchronize their time with the Management Portal. For more information, see TR50 Advanced Connection Management tab.

Set Time

The Set Time section has display fields, parameters and buttons as follows:

Parameter Description
Device Time The node's local time, taking into account the node's time zone.

A restart of deviceWISE is required in order for the updated Time Zone setting to take effect. For more information on restarting deviceWISE, see Restart section in Node Administration.

Local Time The Workbench computer's time, taking into account the computer's time zone.
Set Time Select to set the node's time to the Workbench's time, relative to GMT (taking into account the time zones of the two computers).
Device Time Zone Displays the node's current time zone. Select a time zone from the list of supported time zones to set using the Set Device Time Zone button.
Set Device Time Zone Select to set the node's tome zone to the current selection from the Device Time Zone selection list.

Time Synchronization Settings

The Time Synchronization Settings section has display fields, parameters and buttons as follows:

Parameter Description
Scheduled Synchronization A checkbox that enables the time synchronization feature for the node. If the checkbox is not selected, the other parameters are maintained, but the time synchronization feature is disabled.
When the checkbox is selected, the other parameters become available for configuring.
Frequency The frequency of that the node will request a time synchronization with the time server(s). When a selection is made, other parameters become available.
The options are:
  • Hourly - When Hourly is selected, a Minutes after the hour (range is 0 to 59) parameter and a list of Day checkboxes become available. Individual, multiple or All days can be selected.
  • Day of Month - When Day of the Month is selected, a Time parameter, a Day of Month (including Last Day of Month) selection list parameter and a list of Month checkboxes become available.
In the Time parameter, enter the time of day that you want the synchronization to occur. Use standard HH:MM (hour:minute) and AM PM format. Time entered in military format will be converted to the corresponding AM PM time format.
In the Month parameter, if you select 31, those months that do not contain 31 days become unavailable. Likewise, selecting 29 or 30 will make February unavailable.
Individual, multiple or All months can be selected.
  • Weekdays - When Weekdays is selected, a Time parameter, a list of Day checkboxes, a list of Week checkboxes, and a list of Month checkboxes become available. Individual, multiple or All days, weeks and months can be selected.
Primary Time Server The IP address of the primary time server. The time server may be a local network time server or an internet time server that accepts client time requests according to the selected Protocol parameter.
Port The port to use for the client time requests, normally port 123.
Protocol The time synchronization protocol to use. The options are:
  • Network Time Protocol (NTP)
  • Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP)
Secondary Time Server The secondary IP address to use if the Primary Time Server can not be reached.
Port The port to use for the Secondary Time Server, normally port 123.
Protocol The time synchronization protocol to use for the Secondary Time Serve. The options are:
  • Network Time Protocol (NTP)
  • Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP)
Save Synchronization Settings Select after changing the time synchronization settings parameters to have the changes saved.
Synchronize Now Select to have a time synchronization request take place immediately.
