Installing Asset Gateway for Red Lion

This page describes how to download and install the deviceWISE Asset Gateway for Red Lion product on a Red Lion gateway.

Prerequisites

The following is assumed:

  • You have the Red Lion Series 6000 or Series 9000 gateway
  • You have an Ethernet cable
  • You have a computer, such as a laptop, that can be used to log on to the Management Portal and can have its IP address changed to allow a direct Ethernet cable connection to the Red Lion gateway at its default assigned IP address
  • You have a Management Portal user ID and password and know how to log on. You need this to download the Asset Gateway installation files from the Management Portal.
    If you need a Management Portal account, see Creating the deviceWISE Cloud account.
    If you received the installation files from your support representative, you can skip the download steps and proceed with Using the Red Lion Web Interface program.

Obtaining the Asset Gateway for Red Lion install file

Follow these steps to download the Asset Gateway for Red Lion install file:

  1. Log on to the Management Portal, and select Developer.
    The Developer menu appears.
  2. From the Developer menu, select Resources.
  3. From under Index of files, select the appropriate build (if you are not sure, pick the latest available build).
  4. Select RedLion.
  5. Select RAM9000.
  6. Select Asset_Gateway.
  7. Select DWGateway_Install.Linux-ARM-RedLion.XXX.zip (where XXX is the version of the Asset Gateway software you want to download) and download the file to a temporary location on the computer.

Inserting a cellular SIM card

If the Red Lion gateway will be configured for cellular connection, follow the instructions provided with the hardware to install your SIM card.
The SIM card metal connectors are positioned down, with the notch to the upper left as it is inserted into the Red Lion gateway.

Using the Red Lion Series 6000 Web Interface program

  1. After the file has been downloaded, to allow a direct Ethernet connection from the computer to the Red Lion gateway, temporarily change the computer's:
    1. IP address for the Ethernet adapter to 192.168.0.2
    2. Network mask for the Ethernet adapter to 255.255.255.0.
  2. Connect the computer's Ethernet port to the Red Lion LAN1port using the Ethernet cable.
  3. From your computer, you should be able to ping the Red Lion gateway at IP address 192.168.0.1.
  4. Use a web browser to access the Red Lion at its default IP address by entering 192.168.0.1:10000 into the address field of your web browser.
  5. When prompted, enter the credentials for the web interface:
    User Name = admin
    Password = the last 6 digits of the gateway's serial number. The serial number is located on the label on the bottom of the gateway.

  6. The EZ Config Wizard button can be used to step through the configuration of the Red Lion gateway:
    1. Eth0 Settings
    2. Cellular Connection
  7. Additional Red Lion gateway configuration tasks are performed using the Red Lion Web Interface, depending on your network and administration requirements. These tasks include using the Menu selections and options such as:
    1. Admin -> Access Settings, and System Time
    2. Network -> Cellular Connection, Interfaces (Eth0), Firewall
    3. Services -> DHCP Server

Load the Asset Gateway software

  1. After configuring the Red Lion gateway using the web interface, the next step is to load the deviceWISE Asset Gateway for Red Lion install file using the Red Lion web interface.
  2. Under the  Admin section, select Package Installation.

  3. Select Select File, then select the DWGateway_Install.Linux-ARM-RedLion.XXX.zip file you downloaded to your computer.
  4. Select Install to upload the file to the Red Lion gateway.

After the installation completes, the deviceWISE Asset Gateway software has been installed in the /opt/dw directory.

Uninstalling the Asset Gateway software

NOTE: Before uninstalling the deviceWISE Asset Gateway software, you may want to do a node Back Up using the Workbench in order capture the current application definition and system configuration information.

  1. Log on to the gateway via SSH.

  2. Stop the deviceWISE service using the following command:

    /opt/dw/devicewise stop

  3. Remove the deviceWISE application directory using the following command:

    rm -rf /opt/dw

The deviceWISE application has been uninstalled.

It is important to have the supported level of the device driver or extension files that match the base run time release level.
