Thing Replicate

Replicate a thing allows you to copy a thing within an organization, or to copy a thing to another organization.  When replicating a thing within an organization the replicated new thing uses the same thing definition.  When replicating a thing to a different organization you either allow the Management Portal to create a new thing definition (with a new thing definition key) or select a thing definition in the destination organization that contains all the attributes, alarms, properties, methods of the thing definition that exists in the thing definition from which the thing is copied from.

A LwM2M Thing cannot be replicated.

The following diagram provides you a detailed explanation on replicating a thing.

To replicate a thing, you must be an org admin in both source and destination Organization.

Replicating a thing copies over all of the thing's historical data. Unlike Sharing a Thing, the replicate creates a new thing definition in the destination org.

What is replicated? What is not replicated?
  • Name
  • Thing definition

    • Attributes

    • Alarms
    • Event Logs
    • Geofence history
    • location history
    • Property history

If copied within an org it uses the existing Thing Definition. If copied to another org you need to create a new thing definition.

The copied or the replicated thing does not copy the information that is bound to the source thing namely:

  • Thing ID
  • Files Associated with the source thing
  • Bound things
  • API Usage
  • Tags
